Many folks have asked me what I do for a living, and this becomes "the question"of the conversation.
We leave the conversation with no further clarity for the questioner, and none for myself.
What I do for a living, or what I do...
Has an overture of permanence which does not fit into [my] world.. . .

So, it's like this...
We don't understand the subconscious mind.
Hell, we do not have functioning Theory of Mind, much-less one which works.
We know of the conscious and subconscious mind.
This thinking pertains to the latter informing, and influencing, outcomes in the former.
...the pursuit of substance
So here's the thing...
We are all lost.
None of us have it on straight.
Well, maybe not none. Yet, I have not met one who does.
Maybe that was the idea behind Jesus or Buddha or Mohammed .
They all had it on straight and we deified them.
We turned them into things beyond men, into gods.

...people need people to be better.
This is a nuanced position, so the words may be strike you a certain way, realize that particular words in this context are not intended to shun the validity of the principled definitions they uphold. Rather they are to distinguish this assertion, as unique from the measure of the weight they contain.
